Supporting Individuals

Life doesn’t always go in a straight line - and for people who’ve been linked to the criminal justice system, finding stability can be especially tough.

Whether someone has spent time in prison, is managing probation, or is living with the long shadow of past offences or police contact, it can be hard to know where to turn. That’s where Fresh Start comes in.

How we help

Whether someone has spent time in prison, is managing probation, or is living with the long shadow of past offences or police contact, it can be hard to know where to turn. That’s where Fresh Start comes in.

We come alongside – and we stay

People tell us the biggest difference we make is simply being there – and staying there. We’re not here to tick boxes or fix everything overnight. We build trust slowly, walk patiently alongside people, and hold hope when they’re struggling to see it for themselves. We support the whole person, not just the problem, because we believe every life is worth investing in – no matter what’s happened in the past.

What we offer

  • Mentoring support for people leaving prison or involved with probation
  • Rapid response when someone’s in crisis – to steady things before they spiral
  • Help with housing, benefits, health appointments and recovery services
  • Someone to talk to who listens, without judgement
  • Support for people facing multiple challenges – including mental health, substance use or past trauma
  • A bridge to practical help and local networks, so people don’t fall through the cracks

What makes our support different?

Fresh Start is rooted in the belief that change is possible – but no one should have to do it alone. Our Link Workers are trained, compassionate and grounded. They understand how tangled life can get, and they know how to walk with people until things start to feel more stable.

“18 and homeless – sofa surfing. Custody was my home – at least they knew my name. They locked me up yet they cared. They told you about me. Then you came. You were there for me.”
