When Vennture first met this serving family, they were under significant strain. They had three primary-school-aged children, with concerns about undiagnosed autism and ADHD. Mum felt in constant conflict with the school, believing her concerns about her eldest child were not being taken seriously. At home, relationships were becoming increasingly tense.
The school referred the family to Vennture, recognising that mum needed support and that the situation risked escalating further.
Through regular home visits, the Link Worker focused first on listening. Using Vennture’s Family Journey Mapping approach, mum was supported to reflect on a recent bereavement that had deeply affected the family. This helped her recognise how her own emotional exhaustion was impacting her responses to her eldest child. This moment of insight allowed her to reconnect with him and respond with greater understanding.
As trust grew, the child began to share how overwhelming school felt and how difficult it was to manage emotions during the day. The Link Worker supported mum in improving communication with the school, helping her focus discussions on her child’s needs rather than on conflict. This led to meaningful engagement, assessments, and appropriate support being put in place.
When the family later faced a military posting, Vennture provided light-touch follow-up support, including attending an emergency review to ensure the child’s education plan transferred smoothly to a new local authority.
This consistency helped the family sustain the progress they had made during a period of significant change.
