Freya’s Story

When I first met Freya, she was 60 years old, homeless, and in deep shock. After more than 25 years of military service, she suddenly found herself barred from her marital home and unable to access the support she desperately needed. The world she knew had vanished overnight. Freya was articulate and proud, but beneath her calm exterior, she was devastated—struggling to adjust to a life she never imagined, haunted by trauma, and feeling utterly alone.

Vennture’s approach was never about quick fixes. Instead, we walked every step with Freya, recognising her as a whole person—her pain, her courage, her longing for dignity. We listened to her story, not just her circumstances. Together, we found her emergency accommodation that respected her physical needs, and we stood by her side through every setback and small victory.

Freya’s journey was not straightforward. She faced rejection from Women’s Aid due to a single moment of retaliation after decades of abuse. She battled addiction, PTSD, and the crushing weight of isolation. But Vennture’s relational support meant she was never alone. We coordinated with mental health teams, veteran charities, and local shelters, ensuring Freya always had someone in her corner.

When Freya went to court, we were there. When she needed urgent medical care, we advocated for her. When she was ready for rehab, we encouraged her. And when she finally moved into her own home, surrounded by fellow veterans who understood her struggles, we celebrated with her.

Today, Freya is drug and alcohol-free, living independently, and has even applied to volunteer with charities to help those who faced the same challenges she did. Her story is a testament to the power of seeing the whole person and the life-changing impact of genuine, relational support.
