James never planned for the night to end the way it did. After weeks of hard work, he and his colleagues decided to celebrate with just a couple of drinks. What he didn’t realise was that his tolerance had changed and his body couldn’t cope with alcohol the way it once had.
As the night went on, James became disoriented and collapsed in a doorway. It was bitterly cold, and James was soaked and shaking. Then the shaking stopped, and he began to lose consciousness. He was in serious danger.
At home, James’ wife woke at 2.00 am and realised he wasn’t there. Panic set in. It was their twins’ birthday, and her husband was missing. She was moments away from calling 999, fearing the worst. That’s when our team found him.
Wrapped in warm blankets and a dry onesie, James began to feel safe again. He couldn’t quite understand what was happening, only that someone was there, looking after him. He was given a lift home, back to safety.
When our team called James’ wife, relief washed over her, quickly followed by anger. She thought she had lost him.
James still remembers the blanket, the onesie, and the kindness. Most of all, he remembers coming home safe. Because of our intervention, his wife still has her husband and his children still have their father.
