Sarah’s story

Across the UK, 12% of children live with parents in high relationship distress. In households without work, that figure doubles.

The impact on children is profound, leaving them with anxiety, withdrawal, and a sense that home isn’t safe. One Herefordshire mother Vennture supported knows this all too well. Her home had become a battleground with rows between her and her partner leaving her children frightened and withdrawn. The youngest stopped speaking at school and the eldest began wetting the bed again.

Then Vennture’s Family Link Workers stepped in with a mentoring programme. Their weekly visits helped the parents learn to manage conflict, communicate better, and put their children’s needs first. The children were given space to talk, play, and feel safe again.

“Things are much calmer… I can breathe again,” Sarah said. “Before, I didn’t realise how much the arguing was affecting them. Now, we’re learning to listen — not just to each other, but to the kids too.”

Vennture’s approach is simple but powerful: consistent, relational support that meets families where they are. In the past year, 71 children (82% of the total number supported by the charity) reported reduced exposure to conflict.

That means quieter homes, better sleep, and children who feel secure.
