It all began when Herefordshire Council funded a two-year Family Pastors service in 2015. What started as a small initiative quickly grew, thanks to a dedicated team of trained volunteers, many from the church community – who worked alongside Vennture staff to support families at a time of need.
Our volunteer pastors offered more than just practical help. They listened without judgment, built trust, and helped families access the support they needed to make positive changes. In doing so, they brought new hope to hundreds of families in Hereford.
What we offer today
Today, our family support continues. Our trained Family Link Workers help parents and carers to build stronger, safer, more stable homes. They may be facing issues like conflict at home, difficulties at school, relationship breakdowns, or navigating services for children with special educational needs and disabilities.
We don’t give advice from a distance. We come alongside families and offer time, care, and support that’s consistent, kind, and practical.
What makes our support different?
Families tell us these things make all the difference; consistency, listening, not judging or labelling and families setting their own goals which build into meaningful, lasting steps forward. Plus, our support extends to the whole family, not just one person.
“Through consistent mentoring, a trained adult showed up week after week without judgement or pressure. Their role was to listen, encourage and to be a consistent presence. “I’ve finally got someone who sticks with me,” the young person said. “I didn’t think I could trust anyone. Now I’ve got someone who believes in me.” Slowly, confidence grew. The care leaver started thinking about college, work and a future that felt possible. Vennture’s mentoring programme is built on relationships and commitment. For care-experienced youth, that consistency builds resilience, stability, and hope. Young people supported by Vennture report higher confidence, stronger resilience, and renewed trust in adults. That’s not just good news — it’s life-changing.”
